TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - YEAR B

Readings

First: Isaiah 50:5-9 - The suffering servant: I made no resistance - offered my back to those who struck me. The Lord comes to my aid.  

Psalm: 114: I will walk in the presence of God / I love the Lord for he has heard my cry.

Second: James 2:14-18 - Faith without good works to go with it is dead.

Gospel: Mark 8:27-35 - Who do people say I am? Peter recognizes The Christ, but struggles with his need to suffer ... take up your cross and follow me.

Themes

Suffering, and our need to assist others in their suffering. Salvation / redemption through suffering. No redemption without crucifixion.
