SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER - YEAR A

Readings

First: Acts 8:5-8, 14-17 - Philip preached in Samaritan town, and converted many - the apostles sent Peter and John to them and prayed for the Samaritans to receive the Holy Spirit.

Psalm: 32 - Cry out with joy to God all the earth / Cry out with joy to God all the earth / Before you all the earth shall bow / He turned the sea into dry land / Come and hear, all who fear God.

Second: I Peter 3:15-18 - Reverence Christ in your hearts .. have your answer ready for those who ask you the reason for your hope ... Christ himself has died for sings - in the body he was put to death, in the spirit he was raised to life.

Gospel: John 14:15-21 - I shall ask the Father and he will give you another Advocate ... that spirit of Truth. ... anybody who receives my commandments and keeps them will be one who loves me: and anybody who loves me will be loved by my Father.

Themes

Receiving the Spirit - strengthening for the Christian life. Truth. The spirit as the source of the message we proclaim. Looking forward to Pentecost - coming of another advocate.
