Thirty-second Sunday

THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - YEAR C

Readings

First: II Maccabees 7: 1-2, 9-14 - Seven brothers are tortured for their faith - they die confident that the King of the world will raise them up again.

Psalm 16 : I shall be filled when I awake with the sight of your glory O Lord / Lord hear a cause that is just / I kept my feet firmly in your paths / Guard me as the apple of your eye

Second: II Thessalonians 2:16 - 3:5 : Pray that the Lord may strengthen .. may the Lord turn your hearts towards the love of God and the fortitude of Christ.

Gospel: Luke 20: 27-38 - The Saducees try to trick Jesus with a question about brothers marrying their brother's widow. Jesus teaches them about the resurrection - God is God of the living, not the dead.

Themes

Hope. Faith. Resurrection / eternal life - our belief in the future that Christ promised, rather than speculation about what life after death is like.
